Polish Process Mining Group

Group Profile

The aim of the Polish Process Mining Group (pol. Polska Grupa Eksploracji Procesów, PGEP) is to promote the research, development, education and understanding of process mining in Poland. In particular, the aim is to contribute to increase both the quality and quantity of research works in the area of process mining in Poland and to contribute to its international visibility. This is to be achieved by:

  • creating a forum of discussion, synchronization of efforts and exchange of information within and outside of the academic community interested in process mining,
  • creating an environment for breeding new research ideas and initiatives,
  • boosting interest in process mining among researchers and business practitioners,
  • create an effect of synergy by involving a larger number of researchers and organizations in collaborative research work.

The Polish Process Mining Group is opened to all the individuals (i.e., researchers, academic teachers, practitioners) and institutions (i.e, universities, research institutes, companies) using process mining in Poland and willing to contribute to the development of the process mining discipline.

Process Mining

The term process mining is used to describe techniques, tools, and methods to discover, monitor and improve real business processes by extracting knowledge from event logs commonly available in today's information systems. Process mining is based on exploration of events generated by process-aware information systems during the execution of process instances.

Note that process mining includes (automated) process discovery (extracting process models from an event log), conformance checking (monitoring deviations by comparing model and log), social network/organizational mining, automated construction of simulation models, case prediction, and history-based recommendations (cf. IEEE).

Group Activities

The Polish Process Mining Group concentrates on the following set of activities:

  • research in the area of process mining and development of a new process mining methods,
  • participation in international research efforts in the area of process mining,
  • organization of Polish and international workshops, tutorials, conferences and seminars,
  • practical application of process mining methods in the Polish industry,
  • search for new areas of process mining applications,
  • promotion of process mining concept inside and outside Polish academic community,
  • education of Polish students, researchers and business practitioners in terms of state of the art of process mining.

The results of the Polish Process Mining Group efforts can be found in Initiatives, Scientific Publications, News, Projects and Meetings sections.

Group Founders

The concept of the Polish Process Mining Group was initiated by Zbigniew Paszkiewicz. The Group was co-founded in September 2013 by Dariusz Dwornikowski, Zbigniew Paszkiewicz, Willy Picard and Andrzej Stroiński.

The operation of the Polish Process Mining Group is supported by Poznań University of Economics and Poznań University of Technology which provide necessary infrastructure.
